Brooks, who was taught early on by her mother and grandmother how to sew, design, paint, calligraphy, crochet, write poetry and even sing, knew she was destined for a creative career. Her grandmother was the one who first taught Cheryl how to draw artwork on her jeans when she was a pre-teen girl. She even coined her own slogan, "I Sing With My Hands, as an ode to her other passion... music.
